3 Great Ways to Experience Green Chile Season in New Mexico

Posted on September 4, 2019

It’s our favorite time of year in New Mexico – green chile season! There’s no better sight and smell than these fragrant hatch chiles in the roaster at neighborhood grocery store parking lots. Other states try to duplicate our chiles, but there’s only one certified New Mexico green chile with its unique blend of subtly sweet, spicy and smoky taste.

Peak harvest season is typically August through September, so, what can you do to best enjoy this special time of year? We’ve put together three ways to experience green chile that will make living in New Mexico the envy of your chile-loving, out-of-state friends.

  1. The Green Cheeseburger Trail

If you feel like exploring the state to discover the best green chile burger joint, the New Mexico Tourism Department created the handy Green Chile Cheeseburger Trail. This resource maps numerous green chile burger spots from Silver City to Santa Fe.
