Six Top Fall Events in and Near Albuquerque
The amazing weather makes Fall the perfect time to get outdoors and enjoy everything Rio Rancho, Albuquerque and nearby New Mexico communities have to offer. From wine events, the famous Green Chile festival and New Mexico’s State Fair, there are a wide variety of signature and community events for all interests and ages to experience. One of the most popular events of the season, this large outdoor tasting event takes place at Balloon Fiesta Park and features more than 200 wines from 20 of the region’s top wineries. Admission includes a wine glass and complimentary tastings, plus great live music including the Uptown Funk Dueling Piano Bar. Enjoy food and art vendors, free-on-site painting classes, grape stomping, and chocolate and wine pairings on site. Musical performances from nationally-known country artisits, a PRCA rodeo, carnival rides, games, food and more await you at the New Mexico State Fair. Adults and children of all ages will enjoy animal and magic shows, petting zoo, livestock, agriculture and cultural entertainment at one of the top 10 state fairs in the nation. Sample the smells, sounds and tastes of the fall harvest at the Botanic Garden’s Heritage Farm. The event features green Chile roasting, a pumpkin patch, family games, crafts, music, beekeeping and more. Food, flowers, Chile and pumpkins will be available for purchase as well as The Garden’s famous fresh apple cider. Enjoy tractor-pulled wagon rides as well. Included with admission to the Botanic Garden – for New Mexico residents $10 for adult admission, $5 for Children 3-10, two and under are free.
Celebrate the flavors of the region with the world’s finest wines for five days at the Annual Santa Fe Wine and Chile Festival. Just a short drive from Rio Rancho, the annual celebration features 90 national wineries partnered with 75 of Santa Fe’s top restaurants. Enjoy guest chef luncheons, cooking demonstrations, wine seminars and winery luncheons. The weekend concludes with the main event – the Grant Tasting at the Sant Fe Opera where all of the national wineries and featured restaurants serve decadent samples of their best wine and food offerings. The beautiful fall weather provides the perfect backdrop for the annual Albuquerque International Balloon Fiesta and the vibrant balloon-filled skies. Ranked the world’s largest balloon festival, this enchanting event is generally held the first and second weeks of October, and features more than 500 balloons of special shapes and sizes along with multiple events, music, chainsaw carving, sky divers and more. The Fiesta also includes Albuquerque Aloft where balloon pilots take off from surrounding schools, including 11 within Rio Rancho, the first day of the fiesta. This is the perfect trick-or-treating alternative! Takes place at the ABQ BioPark Zoo from 9am to 5pm and features a family-friendly day of fun complete with trick-or-treating, costume contests, children’s games and “haunted habitats” for the animals. The event is included with regular admission for adults and kids ages 3-12 are only $2 each. Children under three are free.
