The 47th state continues to grow in popularity as more people are discovering what New Mexico has to offer. The state moved from number 39 to number 10 on the 2021 U-Haul Growth States list, based on transactional data compiled for the annual U-Haul Growth Index.
New residents are leaving several parts of the country, such as the northeast and California, to establish lives in New Mexico. U-Haul, the authority on migration trends, provides a comprehensive overview of where people are moving from based on data from their more than 23,000 U-Haul truck- and trailer-sharing locations. Local realtors concur.
“We’re seeing people from the Midwest, from the northeast, and quite a few California buyers,” said Damon Maddox with the New Mexico Association of Realtors.
As visitors and new residents visit Albuquerque, they are drawn to the peaceful and tranquil high desert landscape that surrounds Mariposa. Newcomers love that the Mariposa community is removed from traffic and noise while never far from daily needs, education, entertainment and just 20 miles from Albuquerque. Additionally, the surrounding Mariposa Preserve has dedicated open space protected exclusively for recreational and educational purposes. Community residents relish miles of hiking and biking trails near their homes.
The highest New Mexico had previously ranked was No. 14 in 2015. This year, Texas claimed the top growth spot, with Florida a close second. Mariposa is grateful to provide new homes for those who already live here and those moving to the area, discovering why New Mexico is called the Land of Enchantment.
Looking for a new home near Albuquerque? Mariposa is a master-planned community 30 minutes north of Albuquerque in the welcoming city of Rio Rancho. Near so much of what New Mexico offers, Mariposa is designed for living naturally. Mariposa offers a fully-equipped fitness center, indoor lap pool and outdoor pools, parks, sports courts, miles of trails, abundant open space and endless views at the 2,200-acre Mariposa Preserve and surrounding mountains.
