Hundreds of music fans gathered at East Commons Park in Mariposa Saturday, June 10 for this year’s SolFest music festival. Hosted by the community of Mariposa, the second-annual family-friendly event is growing to become Rio Rancho’s premier summer music event.
Surrounded by five mountain ranges and all the enchantment of New Mexico’s high desert, East Commons Park provided the perfect venue to spread out, grab a beer or bite to eat, and jam to the sounds of The DCN Project, Lani Nash and Mariachi Tierra Del Encanto. The event featured food trucks to please every taste – crowd favorites included sweet and savory BBQ at Rolling Coal 505, African-fusion cuisine at Karibu Café, a beer garden, as well as cereal-infused soft serve ice cream from Cerealsly Sweet.
Kids and adults alike delighted in giant beach balls, lawn games and danced stage side. Attendees perused a wide variety of vendors selling artwork, jewelry, makeup, photography, and customized apparel, and guests were able to win raffle prizes through tours of Richmond American Homes’ new models in their Seasons at Monarch neighborhood.
The afternoon started with the soulful sounds of Nashville born singer-songwriter Lani Nash, followed by Mariachi Tierra Del Encanto who really got the crowd moving with their signature big sound and tight orchestration. Finally, the afternoon capped off with The DCN Project. This versatile group covered a range of genres including R&B, Jazz, Soul and Funk as the sun began to set on SolFest.
Additional highlights included event emcee KOB TV 4 anchor Tessa Mentus, a welcome by Rio Rancho Mayor Gregg Hull, and comments from David Newell of Richmond American Homes and Garret Price of Price Land Development Group on behalf of Mariposa’s developer, Harvard Investments.
SolFest is more than a music event; every note has added to the rich melody of life at Mariposa and provides another reason to call this dramatic high desert landscape home.
