To enhance safety measures and respond more effectively to the growing needs of the Mariposa community, Rio Rancho Fire Rescue has proudly reopened Fire Station 6. Nestled on the north side of Mariposa Parkway, this newly renovated facility is set to provide essential services to Mariposa and the Hawk Estates north of Mariposa.
Station 6, strategically located at the entrance of Mariposa, is responsible for serving Mariposa and Hawk Estates and acts as the second response unit for neighboring districts. The response times are tailored to meet NFPA’s 1710 guidelines, ensuring that the crew reaches the incident location in a timely manner.
City officials, alongside city councilors and citizens, recognized the need to reopen the station to better serve the community. This collaborative effort underscores Rio Rancho’s commitment to prioritizing the safety and well-being of its residents.
“With the increasing number of homes being built in the area the call volume began increasing and prompted City officials to take a look at reopening Station 6,” says Sean Gerdemann, Paramedic and Firefighter of Rio Rancho Fire Rescue.
Rio Rancho Fire Rescue plans to actively engage with the community through events like Hands-Only CPR and Stop the Bleed training. Additionally, the Community Emergency Response Team (CERT) provides volunteer opportunities for community members and programs to help residents enhance their understanding of fire safety and disaster preparedness. Rio Rancho Fire Rescue encourages community members to participate in upcoming classes to better equip themselves for emergencies. Those interested can contact Nadine Molinari at nmolinari@rrnm.gov for more information.
“Rio Rancho Fire Rescue is always working towards growing the department to meet the needs of the community and calls for service. We aim to ensure our residents are receiving the very best service from their Fire Department,” says Gerdemann.
The reopening of Fire Station 6 in Mariposa marks a significant step towards fortifying the Rio Rancho community’s safety and emergency response capabilities. Through a collaborative approach with city officials, councilors and engaged citizens, Rio Rancho Fire Rescue is actively working to create a safer and more prepared environment for all residents.
The station is staffed seven days a week, 24 hours a day, 365 days a year. For residents looking to tour the newly reopened station, contact Lt. Bauer at gbauer@rrnm.gov. For immediate emergencies, please call 911; for non-emergencies, please call the dispatch center at 505-891-7226.
