MARIPOSA HARVEST FESTIVAL RETURNS AUGUST 23 WITH FOOD, ART, MUSIC, AND COMMUNITY SPIRIT
Mariposa’s Harvest Festival is back and bigger than ever. Join us on Saturday, August 23 from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. at Mariposa Park, right next to the community center at 2501 Parkway Ave., Rio Rancho. The festival is free to attend.
Now in its fifth year, the Mariposa Harvest Festival has become a cherished tradition, bringing together neighbors, artists, vendors, and visitors from across Rio Rancho and Bernalillo for a day of celebration, connection, and fun.
Newly appointed event co-chair Gene Kolczynski is leading the charge this year, and while he’s new to organizing the festival, he’s confident the event will deliver the same vibrant energy and strong turnout Mariposa residents have come to expect.
“We’re anticipating somewhere between 900 and 1,100 attendees,” Kolczynski shared. “It’s shaping up to be a super festival.”
Here’s a taste of what’s in store:
- 55 local vendors offering handmade goods, crafts, and community services;
- 5 delicious food trucks, including fan-favorite Rudy’s BBQ as the cornerstone culinary stop;
- Live music from a local DJ to keep the energy high;
- Animal rescues and exhibits, including the beloved Horses of Tamaya;
- Art displays from returning local artists and the Artists of Mariposa collective;
- Family-friendly activities and interactive displays for kids of all ages.
The Harvest Festival is a true community effort, organized by a dedicated 10-person planning committee and supported by 47 volunteers from across Mariposa.
The event also shines a spotlight on Mariposa’s newest culinary gem, Screaming Coyote, a recently opened bar and restaurant that’s quickly becoming a local favorite.
Kolczynski and his family are new residents of Mariposa, and organizing the festival has offered a unique introduction to the community.
“I was studying Mariposa from afar. It just looked like a great place to live,” he said. “And as it turned out, it really is.”
He hopes the festival will give attendees a true taste of what makes Mariposa special.
“Come out and enjoy a fun day with great food, music, animals, and activities for the kids,” he said. “It’s a chance to experience the flavor of Mariposa, and a good representation of what Rio Rancho is all about.”
